IV: Five Cantatas by Sir John Clerk of Penicuik
edited by Kenneth Elliott
A pupil of Corelli, Clerk (1676–1755) has left five cantatas for solo voice, strings and continuo that contain much music of high quality. These works, some in fully developed late Baroque style, are a landmark in musical composition in Scotland at the end of the seventeenth century.
